The International Composition Competition "Artistes en Herbe" Luxembourg
was founded in 2009 and since its launch has had an unexpected success. This competition is unique in its kind in Western Europe with the rules where children from the youngest age are admitted in the JUNIOR category classified into 3 age groups. The educational goal is reinforced by the regulations where adult composers are invited to write for children and this in the SENIOR category.
In both categories - musical works arrived from 37 countries, including Luxembourg, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Israel, Spain, Switzerland, England, Netherlands, Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Serbia, Canada, USA, Turkey, Iran, South Africa, Jakarta, Poland, Armenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, China, Korea, Singapore, Costa Rica, etc.
The 6th Edition of the Competition is scheduled for March 2025.
A follow-up to this Competition is the International Composition Forum - 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2021, 2023 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the "National Cultural Fund" where many concerts, masterclasses and workshops are organized and which is a international musical exchange platform.
Concept and motivation of Composition competition "Artistes en Herbe"
Organizing a Children's Composers Competition is a necessity that has emerged from my personal experiences dating back to my childhood, but also to my recent activities in music education with young people. For children, the spirit of competitiveness is a natural behavior and for us, the adult educators, this evidence can be a source of motivation.
It would be a question of encouraging children and young people to explore the world of their sound imagination and to make them evolve, thanks to a host institution (the Competition).
In Western Europe, competitions for children are very popular in the fields of sports, drawing, instruments or singing.
Competitions in artistic disciplines such as poetry, literature or composition are not so popular and require a different approach. It is therefore for us to promote the talents of young people in an educational context, but without emphasizing competitiveness in the “sporting” sense of the term. The goal of the project is to accompany the musical life of the child until the age of adolescence and to allow him to articulate himself creatively, without imposing our visions and personal tastes.
Above all, it would be a question of avoiding letting the fertile years of childhood pass, when children's creativity is at its maximum. Starting to raise awareness at the age of adolescence is too late. It seems obvious that such a project would fit logically into the Luxembourg landscape, in all the efforts undertaken by the various institutions in this field (Philharmonie, Conservatories etc).
The International Composition Competition "ARTISTES EN HERBE" aims (at national and international level) at the following main objectives:
- pedagogy
- promotion
- collaboration
As part of the "junior" section
ON A NATIONAL LEVEL
- manage to attract the attention of many talented children in Luxembourg
- motivate and encourage children's creativity in an educational framework followed beyond the competition
- the competition will be their first challenge towards composing
AT AN INTERNATIONAL LEVEL
- collaborate with similar institutions abroad
- be enriched by the exchange of educational experiences between international partners
- raise awareness of the wealth of cultural activities in Luxembourg
As part of the "senior" section
AT NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL LEVELS
- expand the educational repertoire, the concert repertoire of chamber music and solo instrument in a field of "educational work" at the height of an affordable technical difficulty.
- expand the repertoire of contemporary works and respond to an ever-increasing demand in this field.
- a collaboration with foreign publishers can be created as a result of this competition.
The International Composition Competition "Artistes en Herbe" Luxembourg
était fondé en 2009 et dès son lancement a connu un succès inespéré. Ce concours est unique en son genre en Europe occidentale avec le règlement où les enfants à partir du plus jeune âge sont admis dans la catégorie JUNIOR classées en 3 groupes d’âge. Le but pédagogique est renforcé par le règlement où les compositeurs adultes sont invités à écrire pour les enfants et ceci dans la catégorie SENIOR.
Dans les deux catégories - des œuvres musicales sont arrivées de 37 pays, dont le Luxembourg, France, Allemagne, Autriche, Belgique, Italie, Israel, Espagne, Suisse, Angleterre, Pays-Bas, Grèce, Chypre, Bulgarie,Serbie, Canada, USA, Turquie, Iran, Afrique du Sud, Jakarta, Pologne, Arménie, République Tchèque, Slovaquie, Slovénie, Chine, Corée, Singapore, Costa Rica, etc
Le 6 ème Edition du Concours est prévu pour Mars 2025.
Un suivi de ce Concours est le Forum International de Composition - 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2021, 2023 avec le soutien du Ministère de la Culture et du "Fonds Culturel National » où sont organisés de nombreux concerts, masterclasses et workshops et qui est une plateforme d’échange musical international.
Concept et motivation du concours de Composition Musicale "Artistes en Herbe"
Organiser un Concours pour enfants compositeur /compositrices est une nécessité qui s’est imposée à partir de mes expériences personnelles qui remontent à mon enfance, mais également à mes activités récentes au niveau de l’enseignement musical avec les jeunes.Pour les enfants, l’esprit de compétitivité est un comportement naturel et pour nous, les adultes pédagogues, cette évidence peut être une source de motivation.
Il s’agirait d’encourager les petits et les jeunes à explorer le monde de leur imagination sonore et à les faire évoluer, grâce à une institution d’accueil (le concours).
En Europe occidentale, les concours pour enfants sont très populaires dans les domaines du sport, du dessin, des instruments ou du chant.
Les compétitions au niveau des disciplines artistiques comme la poésie ,la littérature ou la composition ne sont pas si populaires et exigent une autre approche. Il s’agit donc pour nous de promouvoir les talents des jeunes dans un contexte pédagogique, mais sans mettre l’accent sur la compétitivité au sens “sportif”du terme. Le but du projet est d’accompagner la vie musicale l’enfant jusqu’à l’âge de l’adolescence et de lui permettre de s’articuler créativement, sans imposer nos visions et goûts personnels.
Il s’agirait surtout d’éviter de laisser passer les années fertiles de l’enfance, où la créativité des enfants est au maximum. Commencer une sensibilisation à l’âge de l’adolescence est trop tardive.Il semble évident qu’un tel projet s’intégrerait logiquement dans le paysage luxembourgeois, dans l’ensemble des efforts entrepris par les diverses institutions dans ce domaine (Philharmonie, Jeunesse Musicale, Conservatoires etc).
Le Concours International de Composition "ARTISTES EN HERBE" vise ( aux niveaux national et international ) les objectifs principaux suivants:
- pédagogie
- promotion
- collaboration
Dans le cadre de la section " junior"
AU NIVEAU NATIONAL
- arriver à attirer l'attention de nombreux enfants talentueux à Luxembourg
- motiver et encourager la créativité enfantine dans un cadre pédagogique suivi au delà du concours
- le concours sera leur premier défi vers la composition
AU NIVEAU INTERNATIONAL
- collaborer avec des institutions similaires à l’étranger
- s’enrichir par l’échange des expériences pédagogiques entre les partenaires internationaux
- rendre attentif sur la richesse des activités culturelles au Luxembourg
Dans le cadre de la section "senior"
AUX NIVEAUX NATIONAL ET INTERNATIONAL
- élargir le répertoire pédagogique, le répertoire de concert de musique de chambre et instrument solo dans un domaine “d’oeuvre pédagogique” à la hauteur d’une difficulté technique abordable.
- élargir le répertoire d’ oeuvres contemporaines et répondre à une demande toujours plus grande dans ce domaine.
- une collaboration avec les éditeurs étrangers peut se créer comme suite à ce concours.
